Blackbeard - the Important Pirate on the far left resembles Blackbeard because of the way he braids his beard, like Blackbeard did before going into battle.
Bugs Bunny - when LeChuck asks you how you plan to stop him, after you crash the wedding, one of your answers can be "I'll use my spear and magic helmet!" This is in reference to a Bugs Bunny episode in which Elmer describes how he will kill Bugs Bunny.
Cereals - while on the Sea Monkey, you can look in a cupboard in which you'll find some cereals. One of the cereals is recognizable by a drawing of a captain dressed in blue, hence it being CAP'N CRUNCH.
Grog - one of the ingredients for grog is SCUMM. SCUMM is the system used to control Guybrush and other characters in some Lucasarts' adventures
Indiana Jones (1) If you look at the cup in the Voodoo Lady's house, Guybrush will say, "Now, THIS is the cup of a carpenter." In the third Indiana Jones movie, Indy says the same thing. (2) When Fester Shinetop stops you with the Idol of Many Hands, you can choose to say, "This belongs in a museum!" Indy says that in the third movie. (3) When you open the glowing box on the ghost ship to pick up the root, the Indiana Jones theme is played. (4) When Guybrush steps a board the ghost ship, you can choose to say, "I've come to interrogate the prisoner." This is a line used in the third Indy movie. (5) When Guybrush has to get the cooking grease and sees the rat, he says "I hate rats." in the same way Indy says "I hate snakes." (6) At different points in the game you can say "I'm selling these fine leather jackets." This is in reference to the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade game.
Loom (1) In the Scumm Bar, there is a pirate named Cobb, who is wearing a badge saying "Ask me about Loom." If you ask him, he will try to convince you to buy Loom (another Lucasarts adventure game). Some say he looks like Cob, the dungeon keeper from Loom, but I don't know since I've never played it. (2) After you have been shot out of the cannon and lay upside-down, you can choose to ask, "I'm Bobbin. Are you my mother?" In Loom, you control Bobbin Threadbare who is searching for his mother. (3) When you are on Hook Island while talking to Meathook you can say, "I'm Bobbin Threadbare. Are you my mother?" Meathook will answer, "No. Your mother was a duck." In Loom, Bobbin's mother was a swan. (4) In the end credits, it says, "Cobb and Seagull appear courtesy of Loom."
Monty Python - when you get to the bridge, a troll stops you and says, "None shall pass!" This is in reference to the Black Knight from the Monty Python movie, The Search For the Holy Grail.
Pillsbury Doughboy - in the Scumm Bar kitchen, there is a picture of the Pillsbury Doughboy above the keg.
Pinocchio - in front of the Giant Monkey Head is an idol that looks like Pinocchio.
Sam and Max - in front of the Giant Monkey Head is an idol that looks exactly like Sam and Max.
Star Wars - when you give the red herring to the troll, he throws his club to the ground. When he wants to pick it back up again, he opens his hand and "attracts" it back to him, like he is using the Force.
Superman - when Fester Shinetop catches Guybrush stealing the Idol of Many Hands, he will say "This looks like a job for Fester Shinetop!" This is in reference to Superman's famous line.
A Door From the Future - when you are locked up by the cannibals, Guybrush will have to escape. Notice that the door of the hut Guybrush is imprisoned in is locked up. If you go back again and get caught, just escape again and the lock on the door changes. Repeat the act againand you will finally see a futuristic door lock.
Cheat Code - anywhere in The Secret of Monkey Island, you can press CTRL+SHIFT+W and the game will ask "Are you sure you want to win? (Y/N)" Press Y and you will win the game.
Cloud Face - when Guybrush is shot from the cannon to Monkey Island, the cloud in the upper right corner is a face.
Drawing of LeChuck - in the crew room of the Sea Monkey, there is a drawing of LeChuck on the wall.
How To Kill Guybrush - when Fester Shinetop throws you in the water, stay underwater for 10 minutes. Remember, Guybrush can only hold his breath for 10 minutes. He will become very blue and eventually green. After that happens you will have to restart or load a saved game.
The Stump - in the forest on Melee Island there is a weird looking stump. If you look down through it, Guybrush will discover a system of catacombs. He will try to crawl through it and thereafter the game will ask for Disk 22, then Disk 36, and finally Disk 144. Since the player has none of these Guybrush gives up.
