ABBA - at the start of the game, Guybrush says, "Money, Money, Money." which is the title of a song by ABBA
Bart & Fink - the names Bart & Fink are in reference to the movie Barton Fink.
Books In Phatt Island Library - there are many books in the Phatt Island library and many of them make references to real life things. (1) BREAKFAST AT MEATHOOK'S - reference to "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Truman Capote. (2) HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE BY BLUEBEARD - reference to "How to Win Friends & Influence People" (3) HOW TO SERVE YOUR FELLOW MAN BY LEMONHEAD - reference to "To Serve Man" a famous Twilight Zone episode. (4) BOTH HANDS EMPTY, BOTH HANDS MOVING, BOTH HEADS EMPTY - reference to "Both Hands Tied" by Gervas Huxley. (5) DAMN THE HUMAN TORPDEO - reference to famous quote, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" (6) WALT WHIMSY - reference to Walt Disney. Box Art (1) There are some coins drawn on the back of the Monkey Island 2 box and one of them reads Purcell. Steve Purcell is the creator of Sam and Max. (2) On the list of features it states that there is an easy mode for beginners and magazine reviewers.
British Prime Minister - when you apply for a library card, you can state your address as 10 Downing Street. That is the address of the British Prime Minister.
Costumes (1) Under the staircase you can see Fred Flintstone's legs. (2) On the table there is a Popeye mask. (3) On the table there is a costume called Melee Monkey. (4) There is a blue dog face in the top right corner. It is of Huckleberry Hound.
Credits - in the credits there is mention of a proofreader but it is spelled "proofraeder" to make it ironic.
Disneyland - when Guybrush is in jail he lures a dog close with a bone to get out. On the ride "Pirates of the Carribean", 3 pirates try to lure a dog to their cell with a bone to get the key off of the dog.
Elvis - in the antique shop on Booty Island you can buy a collector's plate with Elvis Presley's picture on it.
Hint Line - in the forest on Dinky Island you can find a telephone and call The LucasFilm Games Hint Line. The phone number is 1-900-740-JEDI which is actually the real LucasArts Hint Line.
Indiana Jones (1) In the shop on Booty Island you can buy the original whip used in all the Indy movies. (2) When Guybrush is swinging from pillar to pillar on Dinky Island, the Indiana Jones theme is played. (3) When you switch the book's on Governor Phatt's stomach, he does it exactly like the scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark. (4) Guybrush can say the lines "I'm selling this fine mouthwash." and "I'm selling thses fine pink dresses." at different points in the game. This is a reference to the "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" game.
James Bond - when you go down to the Bloody Lip and order a grog, Guybrush will add the line "Shaken, not stirred."
Largo LeGrande - in spanish Largo LeGrande's name means "The great length" which is ironic since Largo is short.
Long John Silver - in the antique shop, the name Long John Cooper is mentioned. This is probably a reference to Long John Silver
Loom - at the beginning credits, there are map pieces being shown in the corners of the screen. The piece that appears in the bottom left has Loom swans on it.
Maniac Mansion - when buying the Bloody Stump drink from the bartender he will say "I can't, the chainsaw is out of gas." This is in reference to the chainsaw from Maniac Mansion which you never get to use because it is out of gas.
Moby Dick - in the antique store on Booty Island, there is a poster of the Great White Whale, that has never been caught. This is most likely a reference to Moby Dick.
Monkey Island 1 (1) When you squeeze LeChuck's beard with the elevator doors, the elevator goes up to the surface. When the doors open Guybrush is back on Melee Island. The street is blocked so he can't leave the alley. (2) In the end of Monkey Island 2, you will find an old bumped grog machine. This is the same grog machine that was at Stan's Previously Owned Vessels in MI1. In MI1 it eats all your coins, in MI2 you get them back by pushing the machine.
Nintendo - at the end of the game, you can ask LeChuck if his surprise is a new Nintendo game.
Sam & Max - Sam and Max are costumes at the costume shop on Booty Island. They are on the right side of the screen. If you make Guybrush look at them, Guybrush will say "I want to buy the latest Steve Purcell comic."
Sherlock Holmes - when applying for your library card, you can select the address 221 Baker Street. That is the address of Sherlock Holmes.
Spoofs: Movies (1) When Guybrush leaves Governor Phatt's room, he comes back in to tell him "I'll be back!" This is obviously a reference on the Terminator movies. (2) When you apply for a library card, you can select the address 1060 West Addison. This is from the Blues Brothers movies, and is actually the address of a stadium in Chicago.
LucasArts Logo - the LucasArts logo appears 4 times throughout the game. #1 is on a tombstone in Stan's Previously Owned Coffins, #2 is in Rum Roger's basement next to a bathtub, #3 is on the wall in LeChuck's fortress, and #4 is on a picture next to the ladder in the library.
Visa - Guybrush asks the antique shop owner if he takes Visa
White House - when you apply for the library card, one of the addresses is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. This is the address of the White House.
Cheat Code - CTRL+SHIFT+W then Y and you will have won the game.
How To Kill Guybrush (1) If you wait for atleast 5 to 10 minutes while Guybrush and Wally are hanging over the acid pit in LeChuck's fortress, you will be lowered into the acid pit. You will then get a second chance. (2) You can also try drowning Guybrush while diving for the Mad Monkey figurehead. Stand underwater for 10 minutes and Guybrush will turn blue.
